CS2D General CS2D performance on slow systems CS2D performance on slow systems
4 replies I just bought a new laptop (not netbook) which has an Intel GMA 4500MHD gpu. It gives a decent performance for games like CS2D, CS and Call of Duty 2. In CS2D I get around 30 fps during normal game play. But when grenades start flying, it drops to 10-20.
This would still be ok, I think, if it wasn't that the grenades visually slow down on the client. From the server's point of view the grenade is in a different location. This makes grenades very difficult to avoid, since you can't see their real paths. Also, the explosion itself occurs in a different location on the client, so even if it looks that you were clear from it, you get hit.
I have tried to turn off all effects, but I still see this problem. Is there any way to fix it? CS2D is a great game and would probably be quite playable on netbooks if it wasn't for the grenades. Any feedback is greatly appreciated. I can play CS2D in my laptop and in my sister's netbook. Maybe the problem is just lag? Does the server have a crappy PC or conection?
I get more lag in my laptop (Intel 6500 @ 2.1GHz and ATi HD 4330) than in my desktop PC (Intel P4 HT @ 3.1GHz and Intel Extreme Graphics) but I still get higher framerate in my laptop... Thanks for the reply. I don't think it is lag. It occurs even when I use a server on the same LAN, but I don't see the problem when I connect to the same server with my old laptop.
Also, it's only the grenades that slow down. Other players seem to move correctly. I am starting to wonder whether this could be a CS2D bug? its the engine
and its not lag
it happens when there is heavy bombing or firing
like if you make ~50 turrets in one spawnpoint and enemy
spawns all the turrets will shoot making you crash
it doesnt matter that you decrease effects or increase them
it happens to me on some servers
where theres only killing and shooting
even on my laptop with 6GB ram
4.2GHZ Cpu speed and 512mb video card it happens
This is the reason i play mostly peace servers Thanks, it's good to hear I am not the only one. I just wish DC could do something about it. It sounds like it needs to be optimized a bit. Not sure how hard it is, though.
