The reason a lot of the better free fps games are free is because they're not generic modern shooters. With a generic modern shooter(MW3 or BF3(Actually a good game), you know that people are gonna buy it because they like the franchise and it has a large player base.

With games that aren't so mainstream(for lack of a better word), they can't just throw their product out there and hope that people buy it. Unless they're a renowned company, it probably won't get popular because people want to know what they're getting into. Companies like activision feed on the same ideas over and over. I'd say that one of the only FPS creating companies that sells games with new ideas is Valve.

I mean really, who's ever gonna be like "Oh yeah hirez gaming they make good games let me buy tribes for 60 bucks."

Another part of the issue is that the game testing community who'll actually give sensible feedback on a game are the ones who, if a game isn't cheap, would just pirate it. Thus, steam does dirt cheap sales so that these people will actually buy the licensed games rather than having to pirate them. A free game will get a lot more sensible feedback because you don't have to buy it, and more of this geek demographic will download your game and give it a spin.

Free-to-play ruined the game, that's a fact.

Actually, the best FPS ever I've played is Call of Duty 4/Modern Warfare.

What about the most played ones, 5, 6, and 7?

They all suck. Tried them on console and you can't even turn around if someone is actually shooting you, you'll just die very fast.

I don't like CoD:World At War, because CoD2 is really better.
Will try MW2 someday. Also Black Ops looks cool. With those knives 'n' stuff.
By the way, the only good free online FPS game is A.V.A.

CS O: Go play CS 1.6 instead of this.
Wolfteam: Kids?
MAT: Same as Crossfire.
I'm playing Counter-Strike:Source and CoD4.

Blacklight Retribution is great, but somehow I don't like futuristic games.

And specially because of that, the people who support them don't know what CoD used to be, they think CoD was always supposed to be some shit fast-arcade FPS.

No, it's not better. There are more kids, more hackers, and you still need to pay if you want to get good guns.
