DC: Later in the 0.0.0.2 you might want to add an environment for the Unity GUI in Lua pushing these objects as light user data, or is it based on an event queue?

Starkkz: The Unity GUI isn't very good (at least the current version. They said they will replace it). It shouldn't be used for the in-game interface. You will have your own commands to draw your own interface. The original interface is rendered the same way.

Yes, you will have one overall max weight which only depends on the player skills/perks
I didn't think about not having any inventory at all, but you are right, that's the logical consequence. However the player will probably not start nude and wear at least trousers with small pockets for some stuff.
So basically carts which already have been suggested... don't know if something like this will be in the game.
Yes, you will get exhausted faster when running or won't be able to run at all when you carry too much/too heavy stuff.
