Thats true... but you cant have servers running 24h all the time... unless you a fast internet with unlimited data... and your computer isnt prone to crash, or to pc updates that need reboot.... nah DC will just do the same thing he did with CS2D... probably

@user harlekintiger: ehm, you don't have to buy/rent servers, you can host them yourself.

If I host them myself they lag much more and there aren't online the whole time! My computer isn't made for running a game server infinitely...

I never liked that kind of game, therefor can you please tell me how he did it there in short words?

Listen and dedicated servers. You can either host yourself on your own machine and play at the same time (suited for short sessions with few players) or rent a server where SIII runs all the time. Both will be possible. LAN will work as well. Technically everything like CS2D - which means maximum freedom in hosting.

Thank you DC, that sounds grate!
You could make videos about the development... I'd watch them

I just saw the landscape again and there was a question in my mind: Will terraforming be possible? Will I can just dig a hole or make a hill? Just like in "Wurm online"? That would be amazing...

I dont know... the unity editor shapes the terrain pretty easily... whats to stop a script that allows the player to. Dig or raise terrain?
Im generally clueless.. im asking you lot...

Digging might be doable, I think, but for games like those it kinda requires some extra resources out of your machine. And, I am pretty sure it is possible with unity. Isn't Starforge being made in Unity? (I might be talking out of my *ss here)

It does sound really difficult, but would it be possible to change the spawning system to male and female animals? Like spawning is only possible, when they are near each other and like killing all of the same gender and you won't have newborns. Fishes can be all over in water, but in an island it would be more realistic for animals. I'm thinking about something like trapping/taming animals and by putting them in a closed area (fence) they would breed. It's just a question, nothing more. Oh, and something else. When the time comes for the game's last phases I hope I can advertise it a bit among the Ubuntu and other distribution users in my country; every native Linux game is most welcomed. Thank you for making such good games!

Well, for young and adult you could do as minecraft does, small and becomes bigger with time but, you know, stuff and things.

some suggestions:
it's better not to have lions or sheeps or mamals like them,i mean how the hell those animals got to the small island like what we see in S2
it's more realistic to have snakes,small mamals,more insects,fishes,birds,rats,...
just imagine you are walking in the jungle and suddenly a snake appears (and you jump 1meter high )that makes the game more active...
and if u think im stupid about what i said about lions,ok use them but at least can they RUN? noone see a big cat walk just a little bit faster than you when he need u as a food
what about hidden caves with some native culture in it?some big statues, beautiful fountains, some gold coins,...
or some hidden eastereggs under the water?
and i think it's much better to have at least one friend with you in the island who was in your ship, and now stranded(some stupid friend)
what about some pirates who attack your island with their ship every 30days or so(or more random missions)?it makes the player to have a purpose and the game doesn't go boring after a while,in random island after you play a little it gets boring.
after all i really appreciate DC for this game in my dreams i always wanted to know how it really feels to be like robinson crusoe and S2 what so close to my ideal game
