Ever wondered what cs2d would look like with a bigger resolution?
There exists a trick that allows you to play at larger resolutions!
See the result here:
Ofcourse, I'm not going to explain the trick. But it did make me think about the actual resolution of cs2d.. In 2004 ( the year the game was released) this resolution might have been decent for people. But with most people having a 1080p monitor, the 640 x 480 resolution really is outdated.
Wouldn't it be a nice idea to upgrade to a bigger resolution in next versions?
Instead of 32x32 tiles, one could use 64x64 tiles or even bigger. This way, the game would receive a necessary graphical enhancement. edited 2×, last 28.12.12 03:55:20 pm
Cool, but you can actually play not just be spectator?
You should tell us how to do it if this is true. So it's not just a trick,it's another program or something.
If it's laggy then keep it for ur self. /Removed on request.
This thread is meant for the discussion of how CS2D would look like with a higher resolution. gotya2 has written

So why the big secret???

I suppose that if we knew what the big secret "trick" was, the above would be unnecessary, no? DC Admin Offline
That image doesn't load for me so I can't judge this but CS2D will stay 640x480. The reason for this is that it is a 2D game (and not a 3D game). This means that all graphics would have to be recreated or that the visible area would have to be increased. Creating all graphics from scratch is too much work and would make all custom skins useless as well. Changing the visible area would highly affect gameplay and might also ruin many maps which are designed to work with that 640x480 visible area. So: No changes.
Btw: CS2D is meant to be played in a window so you can do other stuff while being dead. I think this is cool. @DC:
The graphics would only need to be re-done if you wanted to increase the detail, but I'm pretty sure most people just want a slightly larger field of view. Though the issues with certain maps being ruined is a problem. This is uncool and unfair. It must be very nice with fog of war...
And why do we need to see players which are 10 walls away of ourself?
Bad idea. DC has written

That`s what I`m calling degradation.
Standing in one place can`t help you.
CS2d must be reworked, at least graphically. @ StirlizZ-Fapicon:+, I like your idea of reworking, but DC doesn't actually have these much hands because he's very busy in Stranded3, maybe stranded3 will be more better than CS2D because it took a while to release it. DC Admin Offline
@ StirlizZ-Fapicon: Why did you dig out that old thread? You should know already that I have other priorities. There won't be any major CS2D updates from my side. OT: DC, I'm rather amazed at how many times you go through the same thing & keep explaining the reasons nevertheless. o.o Admin/mod comment
Yeah... many years of training. You get used to these things after a while... /DC DC Admin Offline
@ Slovjan: You won't get any better quality from that unless all graphics are re-made to be 64x64 instead of 32x32 - which I clearly won't do because of reasons stated in earlier posts. DC has written

What if somebody will do this for you? @ DC: @ StirlizZ-Fapicon: It's simpler than that. If a tileset_x64 or image_x64 exists then use it, else upscale tileset.png
This way it's left to community and particular users whether to use custom redrawn texture packs. @ VADemon: That's actually a pretty neat idea.
I would rework some default tile-sets for this. But I would hate having to create 64*64 images for everything
pls add svg DC Is Highly Pro Man .. When He Make The Game He Know What He Did About Resl .. Not Good Idea Cuz When You See All The Map and Some Maps Are Small .. Like Scrap Land For Example! its Small and Other Maps The Same .. @ Mr_Outsider: That doesn't even make any sense. Please improve your English.
Also, having authority doesn't necessarily mean that you're always correct. Would work with fog of war but really bad idea othervise
